Chanell Pinkney

Chanell Joy Pinkney is a multi-disciplinary artist, photographer, wife, and mother based in Jacksonville, Florida. Formally trained as a graphite artist, Chanell began to lean into the realm of abstract painting as a way to push beyond structured boundaries and explore a loose form of creative expressions. A major theme in her work is the use of natural sources, such as rocks, sand, limestone, and soil to create pigment. She strives to honor how nature inspires her work. Whether collecting rocks, grinding down charred coals, or creating rust in small jars of water, Chanell appreciates the way she can extract beauty from often overlooked items.

Her work explores the necessary connection humans have with nature and the ultimate role this connection plays on our emotional well-being. Through her use of texture, composition, and neutral color palettes, Chanell attempts to capture on canvas the lessons of resilience nature can teach us as we navigate turbulent times.
